Chapter 52. Instincts
DYLAN
We told the Ridleys about our plan of a weekend trip over dinner. Over calm discussions of the economic struggles of the past fiscal year. It was Ashlene who brought it up, casually even.
“Dylan and I are going somewhere this weekend,” she said, and the two boys in the family stopped their discussion.
“What?” It was Seth.
“You heard me, Dad,” Ash repeated before biting on a piece of revel bar for dessert.
“Where are you two going?” Seth asked.
“And you’ll be gone for the whole weekend? What’s gotten into you? or rather, who’s gotten into you?” Anton joined the conversation.
Seth has given me a look and then he refocused on his own daughter. That’s how the usual way of things work here. Before Ashlene can decide on her own, she has to consult her brother and father first. It has to be approved by them before she can push through with that plan.
