Chapter 98. Magdalene

I got to the office the next day at around 7:30 am. It’s half an hour earlier than the employees log in but my mind wouldn’t let me rest until I have the answer in my hands.
I greeted the security guard on my way to the building. He looked so sleepy and I wondered if he also covered the night shift last night. The dark circles under his eyes seemed to give me the answer by itself. I didn’t ask anymore.
The elevator door opened without me pressing any button, and I discovered that I wasn’t the only one who decided to come as early as this. The cleaners of the offices were already here, ready to do their jobs. The one I ran into on my way to the elevator also pressed floor number 15: the President’s office.
“Good morning, sir,” she greeted. By her looks, she seemed to be my own age.
I smiled at the lady and reciprocated her greeting. Her hands were covered in gloves, and she was carrying a small pail for wet rags and cleaning solutions.
