Lena’s POV

The music had softened into something slower, the kind of sound that made everyone pretend life was perfect. Lucas and I were dancing along to the song when Lucas’s phone buzzed.

He glanced at the screen and the relaxed curve of his mouth vanished instantly as his jaw tightened.

I leaned closer. “Is something wrong?”

He didn’t answer right away, just stared at the message. Then his fingers curled slowly around the edge of the phone, knuckles turning white. “It’s Jenna, Gray’s cousin,” he muttered.

“What did she say?” I raised my eyebrows at him, wondering what Jenna could have said to make him tense.

He exhaled sharply and turned the screen toward me.

*Come and meet me outside the hall now. Cassandra is in danger.*

My mouth hung open as I glanced up at Lucas. We looked around the hall and found Cassandra dancing with Ethan just a few feet away from us. She was smiling brightly like she had no worries.
