Chapter 139. Falling Into the Trap
Lucas’s POV
From the corner of the ballroom, I watched quietly. Lena moved like she’d rehearsed this a thousand times. She was calm, polite,
and full of smiles while setting the trap.
And Evie walked straight into it without even noticing.
My gaze shifted just in time to see Evie slip away toward the far side of the hall, where a man in a waiter’s outfit stood waiting. They spoke briefly and I saw Evie hand him something that looked like a mask, probably to conceal the man’s identity when they got caught. The man disappeared toward the corridor leading to the restrooms.
That was my cue to act.
I followed him, careful not to draw attention, keeping several steps behind. He slipped into one of the rooms along the hallway.
I stood back and entered the room three doors down. I stayed close to the crack of the door and waited.
According to Lena’s plan, Cassandra would be coming through the corridor soon.
