Chapter 70. I Want to Start All Over Again

Ava’s POV

I spoon fed Sophie right after I sent Mason and Raelynn off. She was better today, more awake and more giggling. It was as if a heavy load I had been carrying since the day of the accident had been removed. All the fear of not being able to hold her again or hear her laughter and see her beautiful smile has been replaced with immense happiness.

She swallowed the food in her mouth and asked, “Mom, where is Uncle Max, why didn’t he come see me?”

My own hand just kind of hung there in mid-air, oatmeal pouring over the edge of the spoon. I could do no better than attempt to force a half-smile. “Uncle Max is just working really hard in New York, honey. But he said he’d be back to see you as soon as he can.”

“Oh okay.” she nodded, but she was obviously not happy about it and I didn’t think I was comfortable that she was getting attached to Max.
