Max’s POV
It had been two nights since the gala, and the confrontation with Parker still burned in my mind like some wild tune that would not leave me alone.
His sneering grin, and his venomous words both brewed in me with each attempt at sense. I paced back and forth in the living room of my penthouse.
Jayden was seated on the couch, watching me with arms folded, his brows knit together in concern. He’d stopped trying to interrupt me five minutes ago, probably waiting for me to explode.
“You need to sit down, Max,” Jayden said calmly for the tenth time, his voice a stark contrast to the storm brewing in my chest. “You’re not going to solve this by burning a hole in the carpet.”
