Chapter 73. Safe Zone

Mason’s POV

It’s been a week since I was discharged from the hospital. My body has recovered well and my bruises no longer hurt.

Sophie had also been discarded. She was herself again, disturbing Ava with her sharp tongue. But I think Ava would pick that time over having her on the hospital bed.

I was standing outside of Ava’s apartment building, I watched as Raelynn hugged Ava goodbye. Her suitcase rested next to her on the sidewalk like some unspoken promise she was leaving behind.

I stepped back, hand in pocket, the other stretching out through the car door. My entire body was aching to do something that would make her stay here with me. But I couldn’t. Not yet. Not until I had fulfilled the one thing she’d ever asked of me.

I had to get it done no matter what it took. It was my last chance to get things the way they were supposed to be, so I could blow it.

Ava released her. “Call when you arrive. And don’t cut me off for weeks again. I m
