Merga half walked and half ran on her way back home. A lot of things ran through her mind. Robert had almost kissed her. She could tell that that was what he was aiming for. She saw it in his dilated pupils, she heard his heart drum, and saw the way he looked at her lips. If she had not stepped out of the way, his lips would have successfully landed on hers, and what could have been more disastrous than that, engaging in an intimate act with a mere human.
But that was not only what bothered her, and no, it was the presence of Louis, that was bad enough. Another thing that bothered her was the fluttering of something unfamiliar in her belly, as if there was a butterfly in it, struggling to escape. She knew that if she had not stepped aside in time and his lips had met hers, that she would not be able to extricate herself.
