Chapter 21

My mind wasn’t at peace since our meeting with the old man. I couldn’t seem to connect his riddle words. How did he know about my mom? That’s what I couldn’t wrap my head around.
“Hey, dear, are you okay?” Mom asked as she drove me to school. I managed to force a smile.
I wanted to scream that I wasn’t okay, that everything wasn’t fine, that my life wasn’t normal. But I was afraid. I didn’t want to involve my mother yet. But then again, what the old man said about my mother not loving me because if she did, she wouldn’t hide truth from me.
I knew if there was something really important I needed to know, she wouldn’t hide it to this extent. And I couldn’t think of anything she wouldn’t tell me.
“Yes, Mom, I’m fine. By the way, Mom, are you okay?”
Her brows knit in question. “I’m fine. Why do you ask?” She chuckled, and at that same time, we arrived at my school. I let out a weak smile and just shrugged by shoulders.
