I followed him to his car and got inside. He walked around to the other side and got in as well. I spared him a glance, suddenly feeling uncomfortable. I shouldn’t have agreed in the first place. If he needed to get away from what was bothering him, the best thing would be to go alone, so that he could think through his problems without distractions.
“I—” I started to say.
“I’m sorry for asking you out of the blue. It won’t take long,” he interrupted.
I wanted to tell him that I wouldn’t be able to go with him, but the sadness in his eyes made me change my mind. Since it wouldn’t take long and it wasn’t that late, I would be back in no time. I sent my mom a quick text telling her everything was fine and that I would be back soon, then I slid my phone into my pocket.
