Chapter 30. Feeling Like a Clown
Ethan’s POV
I start to walk outside when my gaze falls on the table close to the window. A man and woman are seated, oblivious to the commotion in the eatery. A sense of familiarity fills me as I take a step closer to the woman, who still has her back towards me.
Avery.
I would recognize her at any time. I don’t know what the brown-haired man says to her, but she throws her head back in laughter, and the man smiles at her.
Avery is seated here with some guy laughing happily, while I stand here with three boxes of doughnuts in my hands like an idiot. I feel like a clown without the painting. A scoff escapes me—to think I was even planning on driving to buy some fresh flowers.
Probably feeling my gaze on her, Avery turns back, and the look of shock that appears on her face is almost hilarious.
Almost. Because I am seconds away from losing the anger that is spreading through my chest.
