Chapter 34. Faint Feeling
Avery’s POV
Sure enough, the boys soon forget about Jake as they talk excitedly, not forgetting to include me in their conversations, which I engage in, and we head out to town, where I shop for Lawrenta’s list, and I even add some snacks for the boys.
I push my cart to the cashier, who swiftly calculates the cost. I search through my handbag for my credit card, but I only pull out a black card. I recognize it as the one Ethan first gave me, but I clearly remember putting my own credit card in the bag, unless…
“Lucas?”
“Yes Mommy.”
“What did you take out of my bag?”
Lucas gives me a ‘deer caught in headlights’ look, but I narrow my eyes at him, and he passes me a sheepish smile before hiding behind his brother. “Daddy said we should enjoy ourselves since he won’t be here with us.” He explains, still hiding Carlos.
I shake my head and hand the card to the cashier, who has a shocked look on his face. “Is this a black card?”
