Amelia’s POV
“Really, Drew?” Adrian snapped, his voice laced with steel. “You want to do this here?”
I could feel the tension crackling in the air, thick and heavy like something was about to break. I had been expecting this. Waiting for it. I knew Drew wouldn’t back down. And I knew Adrian wouldn’t either. The crowds would certainly eat it up if they started fighting right now so it seemed I was the only one left who gave a damn about avoiding a brawl.
I moved before I had even fully processed it, stepping between them, my heart racing in my chest.
I wasn’t sure if it was sheer recklessness or a quiet kind of desperation, but all I could hear in my head was a frantic whisper: Stop them, stop them, stop them.
It was like a sickening déjà vu, like we were back in the school cafeteria where I had recklessly stepped into their middle for the first time, trying to stop them from exchanging blows.
