Amelia’s POV

Darren was gone.

One second, he was on top of me. The next, he was flying across the room, landing hard on the floor with a loud thud.

Darren hit the floor with a heavy thud, groaning as he clutched his side. My breath caught in my throat, my pulse racing so fast I thought I might pass out. My entire body was frozen in place, my fingers gripping the sheets under me like it could save me from drowning in fear.

What—what just happened?

My chest rose and fell in quick, panicked breaths as I slowly looked up, trying to process what had just saved me.

And then I saw him.

Adrian.

He stood in front of me, his body tense, his fists still curled at his sides. The dim light from the hallway cast a sharp glow on his face, highlighting the hard set of his jaw and the barely controlled fury in his eyes. His gaze moved to mine for half a second before shifting back to Darren, who was groaning on the floor, dazed
