I opened my mouth, ready to shut this entire conversation down, ready to tell him that he was the one playing games, that he was the one crossing lines.
But I hesitated.
Because the truth was, I hadn’t stopped him. Hadn’t stopped him when I saw him move closer, hadn’t stopped him when he reached out to collect the bottle of water from my hand and finish the contents before putting it away. Hadn’t told him to stop the driver from going in circles.
He had me right where he wanted me.
And he knew it.
The realization sent heat crawling up my neck, and I hated him for it.
Hated him for looking at me like he knew.
Like he always knew.
I scowled. “You’re so full of yourself.”
His lips twitched, his voice dropping just enough to make me want to throw my shoe at his head.
