Evans stormed in and bowed. “You called for me, Alpha.”

“You can go, Evans,” I said quickly, a faint smile on my lips.

He hesitated, but when he saw that Magnus did not refute it, he walked out of the room.

“Why?” Magnus asked, his hard voice hinting that he wasn’t pleased with my decision for whatever reason at all. “Why are you letting her go?”

Nina’s mouth parted open in disbelief, but that did nothing to soften her expression.

I stepped closer to him, placed my hand on his shoulder, and stared into his stormy gray eyes that were cold—colder than I had seen in a long time.

“I won’t let you punish your child because of me,” I said softly. “You are no longer speaking to Talon because of me, and if this one also gets punished because of me, what would the people think?”
