Chapter 28. The Chase

Cassian POV

‘Helmswood has this handled,’ Turgan insists. ‘You know how he is in battle. He loves the slaughter. I should go with you.’

My Beta is already half home, so we have a clear signal in the mind-link, but I can’t allow him to continue back to the castle. It’s bad enough that I’m leaving during a war.

‘I need you there,’ I tell him. ‘I’m taking my guard and am leaving two hundred warriors to guard my mother and the castle, and I’m sending the rest to you.’

He answers next as my friend, not my Beta. ‘Are you sure, Cassian?’

‘I trust Helmswood,’ I tell him, ‘But he’s an enforcer, not a strategist.’

‘Aye.’ I can tell by his tone that he can see my point, but he’s not happy. ‘I’ll handle things here. Just go get her back.’
