Every word she says is true. She’s the Luna Queen, the one who can wield the power of the Amulet of Light, and our people are depending on us to return them to a world of peace.

Yet I can’t stop feeling terrified of losing her or the baby. “Lyra, I agree with all that. We have to stop Assanan. But how can I let you keep doing something that may be dangerous?”

Her eyes go wide, then narrow. “Cassian, the key word there is ‘let.’”

I open my mouth to say something, but I have no real response to that.
