Chapter 111. Prince and Princess
I sat with Prince Damian and Festus in a small, wooden carriage, moving through the snow on the streets of the outskirts. The air was perfumed by the sweet scent of fresh farm produce, and the sound of the wheels of other carriages, bouncing on and off the rocky road beneath the snow, reverberated through the surrounding atmosphere. I and Damian sat opposite each other inside the carriage, and Festus drove it, whipping the reins of the horses to make them move faster.
“Why meet the crew captain today, though? My plan was to see the priestess after the commotion in the city died down,” I asked, staring forward, my palms resting on my thighs. I wore a thick coat made from fur and wool, gotten for me by Calaius on one of his many errands—he really loved getting me gifts even if I didn’t ask. I suppose it was his way of thanking me for saving his life back then—not that it mattered to me or anything.
