Chapter 114. Misdirection
The forest brimmed with rustles of a thousand leaves. A subtle breeze blew through the massive trees surrounding the clearing in the forest where Lady Madelyn’s house once stood, its gentle current swaying the branches. The bright green leaves that once brimmed with life had lost their vibrant color, growing darker as the cold worsened. The ground was covered in snow, leaving only traces of the battle that occurred on the night of Mabel’s and Rhys’s deaths.
Standing on a branch of one of the trees, perfectly concealed behind a tangle of leaves, was an Andreian soldier, staring intently at the ground. There were six of them in that area, hidden in different positions around the clearing. Some crouched on the branches, hid behind the stems, and others buried themselves beneath the snow, waiting patiently.
The soldier who stood on the branch squinted as he noticed five cloaked figures ride with their horses into the clearing, stopping just before the remains of Lady Madelyn
