Chapter 46. Black and Silver
Deep in the darkest corners of the western city, where the people were beyond redeemable and the crime rate was at its highest, Sylvania and Sylvia survived.
Sylvania had silky black locks that extended down to her waist, and Sylvia had light silver hair of the same length. This was their means of identification in the slums, as both their faces were almost identical.
As young as she was, Sylvania worked different jobs, from cleaning the houses of rich folk to selling fruit on the streets—even stealing—all so she could feed her little sister. She was beaten, harassed, insulted, and thrown away like trash by so many employers, but she never gave up. Sylvania wanted Sylvia to live a good life, so she had no time to rest or feel sorry for herself.
They moved around the city a lot, hiding in alleyways and sleeping in each other's embrace under the rain, until they finally found a broken-down building abandoned by the original owner, but even that wasn’t permanent. They
