Chapter 78. I Wish

I walked through a passage in the house, holding up a bright lantern with my right hand. The passage, which wasn’t very long, held three doors: two on one side to the room of the king and queen and to an empty room we never used, and one opposite those two where I used to sleep. As I walked silently through the passage, images flashed before me: images of my parents and I running around between each room, laughing.
I stopped in front of my own room, reached for the handle, and clicked the door open. The door creaked loudly as I pushed it, and the light rays from my lantern spread into the room. It was a mess; my blanket, pillows, and my clothes lay on the ground under a pile of dust, and the toys I used to play with were scattered across the ground.
I walked into the room, my eyes darting from corner to corner. I walked to the bed, and after staring at it for a moment, I let out a sigh and sat down. It was still as soft as I remembered… fortunately. Memor
