Chapter 18. Before Dinner
Keira stood stiff, panicked, but suddenly, Ben took her hand and brought her closer to his grandmother. “Granny, this is Keira, my girlfriend,” he said casually. Meanwhile, Keira was busy calming her heart, which pounded so loudly that it deafened her ears.
“Good evening, Mrs. Mackey,” she greeted hesitantly. For a moment, Zelda Mackey, Ben’s grandmother, stared at her silently. She didn’t say anything after that and turned her face back to the fishpond, making Keira feel rejected. “Rose! Take me back to my room!” Granny waved to her nurse standing not far away.
Keira looked at Ben confusedly; she didn’t know that Ben and his grandmother were in a cold war.
“Granny, we...” His words hung in the air as Granny raised her hand, telling him to stop.
“Rose, I’m so sleepy,” she said to Rose, ignoring her grandson as if he wasn’t there at all.
“Good night, Mrs. Mackey!” Rachel shouted as they moved away. “Did you two fight? Why is she acting that way?” Keir
