Chapter 22

Gabriel sat quietly outside his house, staring at the moonlight with a worried expression carved onto his face. He let out a depressing sigh and took sips of green tea from a ceramic mug.
Kathrin walked out of the house to get some fresh air. She turned to her left and noticed Gabriel sitting a small distance from the main entrance.
“What’s got you so worked up?” she asked as she walked over to him.
Gabriel heard her voice and turned in her direction. “Oh hey, Kathrin, it’s nothing. Just getting some fresh air,” he said, then asked, “Why are you still awake?”
Kathrin let out a sigh, then replied, “I keep hearing them, the voices of my people as the storm swept them away. My mother’s voice…”
