Chapter 23

“Mentor?” Kathrin said softly as tears gathered in her eyes. She fell to her knees and placed her palms on his chest.
“Why would you go and do something like this? I’m so sorry…” she said, shaking his body in an attempt to wake him up.
Images of the events that played out the last time she saw him came to her mind. She could recall the sound of his roars in pain and the agonizing look in his eyes as she ran a large sword through his heart.
Ever since that day, she blamed herself for her mentor’s demise and swore never to use her ability again because every time she used it, everything around her came crumbling down.
“Every time the storm passes, it leaves two kinds of people behind,” Gabriel’s voice echoed in her head. The memory of the amusement park came to her mind.
