Chapter 35. Heat on The Horizon
The dining table was small compared to the one in the mansion, but it felt warmer somehow, tucked against the wide windows letting in early afternoon sunlight. Myla had noticed that Jared had gone out of his way to prepare her and Hay’s favorite breakfast meals. The man pretended to be all business and strict, but his softness came out in the way he paid attention to all of them, care, and comfort.
“Finally. I better come start,” he said when Hayden wheeled into the room with Beck behind him. “Before the food gets cold. I’m not reheating anything for you entitled brats.”
Beck smirked faintly, dropping into a chair beside him. “Relax, Daddy Grumps. We are already here.”
Hayden just rolled his eyes at him before letting Myla guide his chair closer to the table. The smell of warm bread, fried eggs, bacon, and roasted chicken filled the air.
