Chapter 13. Lucky Charm
Winona tried to reach for anything she could in the air, and she was very lucky to catch a pipe that was collecting rainwater from the roof. The pipe was short, but at least she had something to hold on to. New York City had just experienced a downpour this afternoon, so the pipe was wet and quite slippery. Winona frantically tried to grip it with both hands.
Hanging from a very tall building, Winona’s feet touched nothing but the night wind, which seemed to playfully tickle the soles of her feet. She shouted, her voice suddenly turning hoarse as she tried to maintain her balance and hold on to the pipe. At this height, who could see her and summon help? If anything, Winona might have to wait hours, but she didn’t know if she could last another ten minutes because the pipe was wet and slippery.
