Chapter 18. Pretend
That’s why I said, "Oh, that makes sense." Almost with this much melancholy, he laughs.
"It will get easier." The guy gives me his word. It’s always going to bother me that I didn’t believe him. "What did you say your phone number was?" I try to shake it off and blink as he asks me a question from his phone.
When you say "pretty normal," what do you mean? I feel terrible for even asking, but I have to know. This person is obviously attempting to have a conversation with me, but I’m not giving him my whole attention.
"Every time we get together for drinks or a party, the same thing happens." What Abby told me, he says again. The problem is that he ignores or ignores her completely. Instead, he takes advantage of her and acts as though she’s with him just so he can use her.
