Chapter 37. 40 Degrees
When I get home, I’m soaked, and all I can think is, "Please don’t let Nash be there when I get home." She told us to go spend the night with someone we love, even though we were a mess. Right now, I need a lot of help, so I’m going home to get it.
I open the door to my apartment to get out of the rain and go inside. I take off my raincoat and put it and my bag on the ground. I felt empty inside.
"Chloe?" Nash stops putting things in the dishwasher when he hears me. When I look at him, my eyes meet his, my bottom lip quivers, and tears run down my cheeks. "Where did your clothes go?" He asks in a worried tone. "It’s only 40 degrees out, did you walk home like that?"
I’m about to cry again, and I can feel a sob in my throat. I try hard to keep it down, but it keeps coming back up. I finally gave up and took my shoes off. I can’t feel my toes or even think right now. I can hear and see terrible things in my head.
