Chapter 282. The Police Van

A few agonizing minutes later, the beta returned, his expression begrudging but resigned. “Fine,” He muttered. “One hour. If you’re not back by then, we will come looking for you, and it won’t be pretty.” 

“Understood,” I said with a small nod, masking my relief with nonchalance. Inside, my heart was racing with glee. “Thank you. And don’t drink on the job again.” 

He grunted in response and returned to his post outside, the faint clinking of beer bottles fading as the door swung shut behind him. 

I took the opportunity to leave. Once I stepped outside, I looked up and saw that it was still dark. It was like the moon had swallowed the sun and now there was nothing but darkness. The street lights were on and I did not look back as I headed for the front gate. 

As soon as I was out, that was when I glanced back. No one was following me. I had an hour before the betas came looking for me or alerting the police of my disappearance, and I did not want
