Chapter 287. Darkness Remains

I dragged my body off the bed and stood to my feet. It was a bit cold and when I glanced out of the window, I saw that there was still darkness. That caused my heart to skip a beat but I knew that everything was going to work out in the end. 

At least that was what I hoped for. Was it not how it was in the books and movies? Didn’t everyone always get a happily ever after? I felt like that was the way that things were supposed to go. 

I felt like that was how the universe was programmed. But a part of me knew that I was just being optimistic. It was very much possible for everything to just continue to get worse and there be no light at the end of the tunnel. 

The very thought scared me, but at least it was real. Sometimes, having fear was a good thing; it kept you sane and sober. It kept your head out of the sky. It kept you alert, and ready for whatever life would throw at you. 

I did not particularly like the feeling of fear, but I respected it
