Chapter 32
Winter’s POV
“He’s coming,” Eliza rushed in, panicking.
“What do you mean? Who is—” I asked, alarmed, looking up from the book I was reading.
“The king is on his way here; I saw them headed this way,” Eliza announced.
My heart skipped a beat, “Why would he come all the way here at such an ungodly hour?” I questioned rhetorically in a shaky voice as I shut the book.
It was a question I knew the exact answer to but wanted to pretend for my sake and sanity that I didn’t. He certainly was coming to have a chat. Not only was sleeping with Lordan a nightmare I didn’t want to experience twice, it was dangerous for the condition I was in.
I stood from the stool and began pacing around frantically, heaving with troubled breaths, “Oh no, this is bad, Eliza. What do I do? I can’t let him—” I gasped, “He can’t—”
“I know,” she answered and helped me get into bed, “Just lie down and close your eyes,” she said, dragging the bed covers up to my neck,
