Chapter 32
"What makes you think I'm not alright?" Isla said, soothing the anger coursing through her.
"Umm, it's just that the look on your face changed. It seemed like you suddenly turned upset. Is it about your dad? I'm sorry for bringing it up if it upsets you."
She didn't need his fake apology. Sucking in a breath, she looked into the glass cup and recalled the meek face of her father.
"He's dead," she revealed. "He died seven years ago."
"I'm sorry," his voice turned softer.
"You shouldn't be. After all, you aren't responsible for his death."
She imagined pushing him down the staircase like he'd done to Lionel. She imagined putting him behind bars like his parents had done to her father.
