Chapter 27. Monstrous
“You’re a monster.”
Cataleia stared at the boss with no light in her eyes. Her adrenaline rushed, and thoughts of destruction flooded her brain. Her fingers paled at the strong grip of her knife as if it were her own claws. Hot, dry blood wrapped her skin, and the stench of wolf and rotten blood eradicated her nostrils. Her eyes were unmoving.
“Come at me.” Her voice was ragged and heavy. “You started this. I’ll finish it for you.”
The rogues’ boss dropped his machete and slowly retreated. Disbelief shatters his soul. He could not even bear to say another word to the girl. With what’s left of his men, he escapes into the sea of trees, leaving the rest of his brethren’s corpses behind.
Lei dropped her knife too and then onto her knees. Pain erupted throughout her body — she was fatigued, and the sudden excessive use of her muscles made her entire being quake.
