Valerie Will POV

“Wh… what do you mean? How?” I asked, clearly shocked by the news. “How is she the reason behind everything?”

Patrick let out a deep sigh. “According to Massimo, she put the boss of some bad people in jail. So it was a form of revenge. The worst part was that the bullet was actually meant for her.” He explained. “I think it was meant for Charles, though. They wanted to teach her a lesson by hurting someone she loves.”

My phone trembled in my hands. I was meant to feel relieved that the blame was no longer on me, but I felt even more scared.

Scared for Celeste.

I wondered if she knew about it.

“Wow.” I finally muttered under my breath. “The killer needs to be arrested. Charles needs justice. Is it her fault that they are bad people? She was just doing her job.”

“I understand. She needs justice.” Patrick responded, his voice sympathetic. “I just wanted to let you know, so you’ll stop blaming yourself.”
