My heart flew out of my chest immediately as I read the first one.

[ Valerie, you need to call me back, something happened with the kids.]

I sat upright and dialed my mother’s number immediately. It took a while before she answered.

“What happened with the kids?” I asked as the call connected. “Where are you? What is going on?”

I could hear her heavy breathing from the other end of the line. “They’re missing…I think someone took them.”
