“Why did you ask the police to leave and stop their investigation?” Valerie’s mom demanded with a hint of confusion in her voice. “Don’t you care about finding the kids?”

I swallowed hard. “Just go home.”

Her brows furrowed. “I don’t understand you, Patrick.”

I exhaled sharply. “I know who took them, just go home. I’ll take care of everything.” I replied, my voice sharp.
