Chapter 23

Valerie Will POV

The next time I woke up, I found myself in a hospital room.

The strong smell of antiseptic filled the air.

I hated hospitals, especially the beeping machines and the smell of the environment.

As I tried to get up from the bed, I experienced an intense pain in my waist. Why did it hurt so bad? With a frustrated sigh, I lay back on the bed and waited until anyone entered the room.

The door opened and Celeste’s voice echoed through the quiet room. “Hey, you’re awake.” I looked up to see her holding a cup of coffee.

“Yes, what happened? Why am I at the hospital?”

The last thing I remembered was going over to the cabin to confront Jessica. I had no idea when or how I had passed out.

Celeste dropped the coffee on the table and moved closer to me. She placed her hands on the different parts of my body, as though she were checking my temperature.
