I couldn’t focus on the meeting even if I tried:
My mind kept drifting back to Patrick.
I had a feeling something would go wrong if I came to New York. Jamal tried to convince me that I wouldn’t see any of them, but he was wrong.
I should’ve listened to my guts.
I couldn’t even run from Patrick if I wanted.
He insisted on waiting for me until the meeting was over.
What did he want to talk about? There was nothing to talk about with him. I was scared that I would randomly blurt out the fact that we had a son together.
I couldn’t risk that. I needed to find a way to make him leave.
After the meeting ended, I decided to spend a few more hours upstairs, hoping Patrick would get tired and leave. But my plan didn’t work.
Patrick came to the fifth floor to find me.
“Hey.” His voice echoed through the quiet room.
The client and his assistant had already vacated the room.
