Chapter 20
She was smiling. At him. Why? Why was she smiling at him? Forget that, why did she look so beautiful when she smiled? It was just as he remembered, and his heart ached at the fact that she had left just like that. Used him, smiled at him like that, and abandoned him. The memory soured the sight of her smile. He wasn’t going to be fooled a second time. That smile wasn’t nothing.
“Why are you...”
“Can you move away? You’re blocking the sight,” she cut him off.
What? The sight? He followed her eyes to see that it was the view she was actually smiling at, not him. He squeezed his eyes shut as embarrassment hit him hard, weakening his knees. He placed his hands on the table to support himself but didn’t move. Her eyes snapped to his face, staying there for a bit before she rolled her eyes with a groan and proceeded to sit.
“Why am I here?”
“How was the ride here?” he inquired.
She inhaled deeply, deciding not to pick up fights for nothing. “It was good
