Chapter 28

Her heart was beating in her ears. The grip was strong but not tight enough to hurt her. She took a moment to look up at the person, mentally calculating how long it would take her to get her pepper spray.

“Oh my word, Trevor. Don’t do that.”

“If you were paying a little more attention, you’d have heard me walk up behind you. You’re not security conscious.”

“Spare me the lecture, please,” she retorted, but she was smiling. “How are you, Boss? And to what do I owe this after-work pleasure?”

“You’re the one who’s been running away after work. You’ve been so busy these days in your...relationship, which you never mentioned to me.”

“Oh shit. I haven’t.”

“Mmm. You haven’t. I happened to hear it from gossiping staff, like a common person.”

“I’m sorry, Trev.”

And she was. If anybody was to know about what she was getting herself into, apart from Tiana, it was Trevor. He was her best friend. And look, almost three months down the line, and sh
