Mark’s POV

Shit! I don’t know how I’m going to pay my mother’s medical bills. Andrew fired me like shit without even letting me explain myself! What a head of mule! And besides, he doesn’t even pay attention to Emily anymore. Poor thing, she must be wondering why he’s so distant with her, when she’s done nothing wrong.

I snap out of my thoughts when my mom puts her hand on mine.

“Are you okay, my son?” she asks me.

“Yeah, don’t worry, Mom.” I reassure her to prevent her from worrying.

My mother is all I have left. After my father’s death, my mother and I stuck together to overcome our pain. However, only a few days later, I learned that my mother had cancer. I was annihilated. I’ve already lost my father, and if my mother dies too, I’m not sure I can recover.

“You look so much like your father.” She told me suddenly.

“Mom…”

“When he had problems, he also reassured me that everything was fine, when it was quite the opposite.”
