Chapter 39. A Trip Back
Isabella felt numb. There was an annoying beeping somewhere in the room, like an incessant alarm clock.
She wished to lunge it across the room until the sound stopped. It irritated her ears.
She also couldn’t move, even if she tried. Or at least she thought so. Maybe the beeping was getting into her head and made her think she couldn’t move.
Beyond that, the room was silent.
The urge to reach for it was overwhelming.
“Stop,” she tried saying. “I need silence.”
But before she had the chance to, a familiar darkness enveloped her once more.

She could hear the beeping again. But this time, it wasn’t so close. Or maybe it was.
But the voice speaking beyond the beeping made it much more bearable. It was soft and vulnerable. A male.
What was he saying?
“Come back to us, Bella.”
Bella. She tasted the name on her tongue.
“Alex.”
Did she say it aloud? Did he hear her?
