Chapter 16

It was evening, and Ryan and Audrey could be seen in a car driving. He offered to drive her home, even though she resisted, but he still insisted on driving them home. She was dropped a few houses away from her house and bid him farewell. When she got home, she found Madelyn in the sitting room.

“Why did you leave the house without informing me?” Madelyn asked.

“You weren’t at home, so I thought it wasn’t necessary,” Audrey replied.

“Why haven’t you done your portion of the work?”

“We have enough maids to do that, and if you would like to work, you can help them out, Mother,” Audrey said and went to her room. She’d had enough of Madelyn’s attitude, enough of the maltreatment, enough of the way they were using her. She would make sure she exposed their evil doings to the world that thought they were good people.

She called Madelyn’s maid and locked the door to avoid intrusion.
