Chapter 26. Betrothed

Suddenly, Lexcis strides over to us and quite literally snatches me away, for the third time now. "I need to have a chat with my betrothed," he remarks assertively. Without waiting for any response, he just drags me along, surprisingly managing to be gentle in his firm grip.

I give a sign to Zave that it's okay, and he stands back.

Lexcis is silent the entire time, even when we're outside.

I see Zave and Veronica walk over to our guards. They are completely in shock at what has happened. I'm sure Z will tell them what to do, go back to The Ridge and wait for orders, and rest in the meantime.

Laurence motions us toward a carriage, but Lexcis declines.

"Is there an empty one?" he asks Aldric.

"Yes, the one at the back," Aldric responds.

"Okay, great."

Without waiting, Lexcis hauls me toward the designated carriage. I catch sight of my siblings, Aldric, and Laurenc
