Chapter 18

Claire’s POV

It was early in the morning when Luke picked me up. We were driving on a 7-hour trip to Mia’s province.

“You can sleep in the car,” Luke said as he picked up my bags to put them in the back of his car.

“Goodness, it’s too early,” I said as I looked at my watch. It was three in the morning.

“You wanted this,” he smiled at me.

“I needed this, Luke. But I never knew you’d come with us. Aren’t you busy with work?” I asked him.

“I can work from home, Claire. Don’t you worry,” he chuckled, and I rolled my eyes.

“You’re playing the good boyfriend too well, huh?” I smirked, trying to annoy him.

“Don’t tell me you’re liking it,” he grinned.

“Excuse me? Why would I?” I scoffed. Geez, I was trying to annoy him, but it backfired again.

Luke started driving as I tried to sleep. I had only a few hours of sleep the night before, and I was hoping I could sleep at least a couple more hours in the car.
