Chapter 26. The Call

“Kyler?”

Hearing Willow’s voice, Kyler’s heart raced. Adrenaline surged, and he grew anxious because Willow wasn’t beside him.

But Willow’s voice sounded calm, if a little hoarse, as if she had a bad cold. Or had she been crying? Kyler became even more worried.

“Where are you? What have they done to you? That annoying detective arrested me to bring you here!” Kyler’s voice sounded excited.

“Hey!” a warning voice came from the other side of Kyler’s bed where Shawn was sitting by the window sipping instant coffee.

Kyler half-whispered into the phone, “I forgot the detective was in the same room with me.”

“Don’t start with me, Mr. Messer. I warn you,” Shawn replied.

There was a small chuckle on the other end. Willow was relieved to hear Shawn and Kyler’s situation. “I’m fine, don’t worry,” she reassured.

“Get out of my room,” Kyler demanded bluntly.

Shawn insisted, “We share the room.”
