Chapter 32. Feels Like Home?
Max returned home almost at dawn. As he walked through the quiet hallway and into the guest lounge, he was startled to see Veronica sitting there. It seemed that Veronica had been waiting for Max. Tired, Max approached Veronica, who was standing not far from where his mother was sitting.
“Good evening, Mom,” Max greeted hoarsely.
Actually, Max didn’t want to talk about anything. His mind was foggy and chaotic, but he couldn’t avoid the presence of Veronica, who was already waiting.
“It’s morning already. Where have you been, Max?”
Veronica’s tone was cold, devoid of any emotion. Yet it was intimidating to anyone listening. Veronica’s influence was quite daunting.
“Meeting Willow,” Max answered honestly.
There was no point in Max lying; Veronica would find out eventually. Even Max’s intuition suggested that Veronica probably knew that Zoey was from the Calamus-Goodwinson family. So why continue to hide it?
“You should have come to me first,”
