Chapter 28. Awkward Conversation
The car pulled into the hotel parking lot where Shawn and Kyler were waiting on the patio. Willow got out of the car, reluctant to make small talk with Max.
She immediately approached them, a dark expression on her face.
Kyler growled in frustration, his sharp gaze fixed on the driver who had just gotten out and opened the back door. Kyler felt the urge to lash out, to tear Max apart on the spot.
“Hey, calm down, K9,” Shawn whispered, noticing Kyler’s tense demeanor.
“Shut up!” Kyler snapped irritably.
“Good morning, Kyler, Detective,” Willow greeted.
Kyler’s hand started to reach for Willow, but he stopped himself and casually patted her shoulder. “Thank God you’re OK,” he said.
Max held Zoey’s hand and approached the hotel patio. Out of courtesy, Max nodded to Shawn and only glanced in Kyler’s direction. It was as if the mayor’s son was beating the drums of a cold war.
