“Don’t worry,” Kyler said from the wide open window of his car.
Willow still looked uncomfortable. “But, Kyler…”
“I’ll drive Zoey and watch her during school hours. Don’t you trust me?”
Zoey poked her head out from behind Kyler’s shoulder. She smiled so sweetly and happily. It made Willow feel a little calmer.
“Okay.” Willow agreed.
Kyler looked back as he held up five fingers to Zoey. “High five, sweetie!”
“High five!” Zoey high-fived Kyler.
“Say bye to Mom,” Kyler said.
Zoey waved her hand. “Bye, Mom!”
Willow’s eyes looked sad as she waved back at Zoey. “Bye, honey. Be careful at school.”
The car sped down the street, and Willow stood at the curb until the car’s shadow disappeared. She sighed softly, then looked at her watch. Willow had to get to the office soon.
Willow’s life felt lighter, even though a lot had changed. At the same time Willow was rushing to the office, Zoey was being driven to school by Mrs. Charl
